You’ll never go in the water again . . . A great white shark causes havoc in Amity a small island which has plenty of people flocking to the beach in the summer.
Believe it or not last week was the first time I had ever watched Jaws. Yes, honestly. It is one of those films which I just never actually got round to watching. I obviously knew about the music and everything like that, funny how much you know about a film even though you have never actually seen it. This is certainly one of those films, but I am now pleased to say I have seen the whole thing.
The way it was made and put together is still brilliant to this day. Yes I honestly mean that, we don’t actually get to see very much of the shark throughout the film. The fear is of what might happen, the suspense and build up works very well from start to finish. We are never actually sure when it is going to attack or how it is going to attack.
I am pleased to say that I have now seen this classic and still well mentioned and talked about films. It really does have something else to make you really think twice about the sea! I think it’s brilliant that they managed to keep the rating down at PG especially with a couple of horrible death scenes really impressive.
But when you have people who want the beach to be open even if it’s not totally safe just because that is what the town lives for the summer and people flocking to the beach you know it is not going to end well. Although I will admit that I thought the part with this two children pretending to be a shark was just brilliant! Really thought it was so well worked in as everyone really would have been on edge.
So for a film that came out in the 70′s its brilliant that it’s still so well-known now and shown on TV quite a lot that I really should have seen it many times before. It certainly set the standard for this type of film. I haven’t seen any of the sequels and not sure if they are actually worth it? (Feel free to leave your thoughts on that one.)
