Dungeons And Dragons Day (1974)-- Many sources, including Playing at the World, assign to Dungeons and Dragons an initial release in January 1974. Their best evidence comes from contemporary notices like a letter written by Gary Gygax late in 1973 foretelling the imminent release of the game. Gary Gygax's piece in the 1999 Collector's Edition box set, asserts
the first sale of a Dungeons and Dragons game was made in late January 1974.So this January 26th, take the time to celebrate the birth of Dungeons and Dragons and role-playing games.

- A little-known holiday, originally established as a day to connect with others through the heart, it stresses the importance of sharing a kind word with fellow man. Although the name conjures thoughts of childhood storybooks and amusement park rides, it is actually rooted in an 1800s-era school house located in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
National Peanut Brittle Day
- Peanut Brittle is one of the easiest homemade candies to make; most of the minimal ingredients are common items probably already on your pantry shelves or in the fridge. Raw peanuts (with skins) are available at any grocery store. Once the peanut brittle is cooked, it is simply poured onto a pan, cooled and broken into pieces - no fru-fru shaping or tedious wrapping of small pieces. Peanut brittle stays fresh for months too, so if you keep it hidden from family members, a piece or two will always be available when a craving hits.
Lotus 1-2-3 Day (1983)
- Lotus released Lotus 1-2-3 in January 1983. The name referred to the three ways the product could be used: as a spreadsheet, a graphics package, and a database manager. The last function was seldom used. 1-2-3 was the most powerful spreadsheet available in the new PC-compatible market; sales were enormous, turning Lotus into the largest independent software vendor in the world almost overnight. The business plan had called for $1,000,000 in sales in the first year, but the actual results were $53,000,000.
Television's Birthday (1926)
- John Logie Baird demonstrates the world's first television system to transmit live, moving images in tone graduations, to 40 members of the Royal Institution on January 26, 1926. The 30-line images are scanned mechanically by a disk with a spiral of lenses at 12.5 images per second.

National Spouses Day
- A time to enjoy and appreciate your better half. You can use this day as a prelude or warm up to Valentine's Day, perhaps. But, it is not as much of a gift-giving event. Rather, use it as a time to show your spouse you care and appreciate all of the things he/she does for you and for the household. Over the long years of a relationship, it is easy to take for granted the many things your spouse does. He/she's always there. They do so many big and little things as a routine event. Australia Day (1788)
- The official national day of Australia, commemorating the establishment of the first British settlement on the continent of Australia on January 26, 1788. On this date, the British penal colony was founded at Sydney Cove on Port Jackson, New South Wales, by Captain Arthur Phillip, in his capacity as the first Governor of New South Wales.
