The father of four, aged 39, who burst onto our screens in 1999 with his first show ‘The Naked Chef’ came top of the poll of 2,000 Brits.
Second place in the poll went to Delia Smith, followed by Gordon Ramsay, Keith Floyd and Nigella Lawson.
Jamie Oliver’s recipes were also named the easiest to follow while his books are most likely to be found on the nation’s bookshelves.
It also emerged mums would most like the Naked Chef to cook them a meal this Mother’s Day.
A spokesman for The Hundred-Foot Journey, a tale of food, family and love starring Helen Mirren, which commissioned the research to mark the Blu-ray and DVD release of the film said: “Jamie Oliver became popular soon after his first TV show debuted thanks to his boy-next-door personality and easy to follow recipes.
“And despite a host of other celebrity chefs arriving on the scene over the last decade, Jamie is still at the top of his game and the nation’s favorite.
“Thanks to people like Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay, cooking has seen a resurgence over the past few years with books from celebrity chefs constantly in the top books list.
“They have made cooking something which people now enjoy, rather than something which is a means to an end each evening.
“Many are even putting the increase in the number of men cooking down to the popularity of celebrity chefs.
Heston Blumenthal was named sixth in the list of greatest celebrity chefs of all time, followed by The Great British Bake-Off favorite Mary Berry and the original celebrity chef Fanny Cradock.
James Martin and Raymond Blanc completed the top ten.
Other celebrity chefs to feature in the poll include This Morning cook Gino D’Acampo, The Hairy Bikers and Lorraine Pascale.
Researchers also found more than three quarters of Brits enjoy watching celebrity cooking programmes, with the average adult watching three hours of these shows a month.
And the average home also has three celebrity recipe books on their shelves.
It also emerged seven in ten mums would love to have a meal cooked for them by a celebrity chef this Mother’s Day, with Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay and James Martin the most popular choices.
And while more than half of mums expect others to do the cooking in the home this Mother’s Day, more than one in five reckon they will still end up doing it themselves.
