Saturday 6th September 2014, Ascot Racecourse

Combine food and wine from around the world with a memorable day of racing at Ascot’s Festival of Food and Wine Raceday on Saturday 6th September.

Chef and TV personality James Martin will be headlining the event for the second year, following a successful debut in 2013.

As part of his involvement Martin will be serving an exclusive three-course set-menu at Ascot’s spectacular new restaurant, On 5 where guests can look forward to a personal visit from him as part of their experience.

He will also demonstrate two of his dishes for Grandstand and Premier Admission racegoers. A special James Martin Demo Package is available including a reserved seat for the demonstration, Premier Admission, a complimentary glass of wine and a gift bag for £37.

Alongside a seven race card headlined by the country’s most valuable mile-and-a-half handicap, racegoers can also look forward to a host of local and international produce from food stalls including the Food Emporium, Chocolate Tree, Fabulous Fudge, The Honest Carrot, Surrey Fine Foods, Lymn Bank Cheese featuring cheese in 17 flavours and the Wiltshire Chilli Farm. Plus the opportunity to sample some of the finest international wines, including a Royal Ascot selection, at the Wine Festival hosted by connoisseurs Bibendum.

James Martin said: “I’m delighted to be returning to the Ascot Festival of Food and Wine for the second year. It’s a fantastic day out that gives people the chance to combine great racing with an opportunity to sample the best in local cuisine and learn how to recreate their own delicious dishes at home. There was a real buzz around the cooking demonstration that I did last year and I’m looking forward to returning for more of the same in a few weeks times.

“I’m also honoured to be designing a menu for Ascot’s new restaurant, On 5 on 6th September. On5 opened to great acclaim for Royal Ascot in June. It will be fantastic to test it out myself and I hope to see many of you there.”

Nick Smith, Head of Communications and International Racing at Ascot Racecourse said:

“Good food and competitive racing have always been a winning combination at Ascot but the Festival of Food and Wine Raceday puts that into the sharpest focus, as racegoers get to see how a top chef operates close up.

“Racegoers can look forward to the country’s most valuable mile-and-a-half handicap at £150,000 headlining a seven race card, whilst sampling a broad range of both local and international food and wines before and during races.

“The breadth of international food and wine on offer at the festival highlights our continued commitment to delivering excellence in the food and fine dining experience at all of our race days.”
