James Franco Says Quitting Instagram Was “Liberating”

Instagram is the perfect place for people who love attention and can’t get enough of it. Especially famous people. That would be why the Kardashians are so successful there. James Franco loves attention and he loves absolutely everything James Franco does (he’s truly James Franco’s biggest fan). And there was a time when he was laying greasy thirst traps on Instagram, but eventually James grew tired of that and quit.

You would think that James Franco might wipe a tear from his eye while looking wistfully at the other people jacking off their own egos through Instagram, but that’s not the case.

James Franco recently chatted to Variety about his latest film, The Disaster Artist, and general aspects of James Franco’s life. It’s been a while since we’ve heard from James Franco, so there’s a lot to get caught up on. The main thing is that he’s a different person now. James Franco talks about fame and separating real James Franco from who the public thinks James Franco is (deep). One way new and improved James Franco keeps it real is by staying away from the siren call of Instagram.

“It’s very liberating. I just got rid of it. When I first got on, it just felt silly. I treated it like it was a joke. You get in that weird seductive space where it feels private, but it’s also public. And you get hooked on the reaction.”

James also says he was “testing the bounds” of Instagram and that it wasn’t always working out for him. For example, James had a deal with Gucci, who warned him to stop posting the type of pictures that make him looking like a methhead looking for a gas station hookup.

It’s probably for the best that James Franco quit Instagram. Without a social media presence, we don’t know nearly as much about this alleged new James Franco. Is he still an insufferable douche? Who knows, it’s a mystery. And no Instagram means no chance of getting caught trying to pick up 17-year-old girls on Instagram. That sort of thing doesn’t really go over as well in 2017.
