Jade Bird has unveiled a new video for ‘Love Has All Been Done Before’. It comes ahead of her eagerly awaited debut album early next year and tops off a phenomenal 2018 which found the singer-songwriter performing at major festivals in the States and making appearances on Later… with Jools Holland, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. Oh, she also played numerous tours both at home and abroad – including a jaunt across the States.
‘Love Has All Been Done Before’ opens with irreverent acoustic strums and almost spoken-word vocals as Jade tells a companion that she’s ‘sick and tired of just letting you in just to let you down again’ before the rasping FM-friendly chorus of: ‘You are sweeter, you are pure but love has all been done before’ lets them know exactly who’s in control and how this stale relationship is in need of more romance and respect.
This is further confirmed by Jade’s admission that ‘you almost had me for a minute there, giving my whole life to this love affair. Well, I’m not gonna sit here and stroke your hair’ – a fine combination of the swagger of Alanis Morrisette with the songwriting nous of a band like The Decemberists.
