Jade Bird has shared ‘Houdini’ ahead of the release of her much-anticipated second album in 2021. Showcasing a more stripped-back alt-folk sound, the single finds Jade offering her thoughts on abandonment – and how she’s now looking to move away from thinking about those who left her behind (or disappeared like the man of the title) with no explanation: ‘Oh, you’re looking at me, like you can’t quite believe what you’re feeling. But I’ve always known that you’d go without giving a reason. Oh, you start a war, slam the door, throw it all in my face. So, I don’t want you to stay’; ‘Oh, if they need a one to one. A reason or an explanation. If they need lessons on leaving, I’ll send them to you, Houdini’.
