Renowned creative entrepreneur Jack Butcher, who is the mastermind behind the revolutionary Checks VV non-fungible token (NFT) collection and the founder of the esteemed creative agency Visualize Value, has announced the launch of his latest project, Checks Elements. This innovative venture combines the power of generative artwork with meticulously hand-drawn physical prints.
Checks Elements collection
The latest addition to the world of generative art is Checks Elements, a collection of 152 pieces that draws inspiration from the four classical elements of earth, fire, water, and air. The collection comprises of distinct algorithmically-generated composites of colors that constitute these elements, and delves into the dynamic correlation between consensus and truth.
Butcher said that elements represent the initial occurrence of decentralized consensus in concept. The team is striving to match with the themes that Checks is attempting to convey regarding the consensus on the internet versus the pre-internet consensus. The latter being the agreement among diverse cultures, languages, regions, and schools of thought on the four fundamental categories of matter, namely earth, water, air, and fire.
Butcher also said that his team has modified the algorithm responsible for creating the original Checks collection and incorporated additional parameters to develop the new collection. Renowned artist Butcher has collaborated with master printmaker Jean Robert Milant and Cirrus editions to transform NFT outputs into tangible art pieces. The process involved translating the digital artwork into hand-drawn monoprints measuring 30 inches by 43 inches. This was achieved by feeding an on-chain SVG file through a vintage lithographic printing press.
The printer utilized an etched plate to produce physical prints of the signature four-by-four Checks grid. The collection’s paint colors were meticulously selected by Butcher and his team, utilizing algorithmic outputs to determine each addition to the lineup. The physical artwork was authenticated using Butcher’s fingerprint and subsequently paired with an Ethereum-based NFT.
The project’s DNA did not seem to be progressing until they had a conversation with Milant and gained insight into his methodology for transforming Checks into a tangible work of art. They originate from a predetermined set of limitations and are subsequently altered according to rules that are generated by a computer.
Christie’s is set to host a solo auction from May 16 to May 23, featuring three out of the four “Alpha” elements, namely water, air, and earth. A charitable contribution will be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital from a portion of the sale proceeds. Christie’s New York gallery will showcase both the physical and digital versions of the work starting May 20th.
The fourth Alpha element of fire, along with the remaining Checks Elements, is set to be made available to the public through an auction that will last for 24 hours. On June 24, the physical prints will be made available for purchase.

Butcher said that the upcoming auction will incorporate certain elements from the original Checks collections. However, he clarified that this project may not be compatible with the other gamified pieces in terms of interoperability. In a recent collection, inspired by the blue verification check mark that has become popular on Twitter, users were able to create smaller, unique editions of checkmarks by combining non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Certain items will persist when the remaining collection is auctioned off after Christie’s, and the auction will not follow a conventional format. Once launched, there are numerous mechanics at play.
