This is now confirmed. Hervé Renard is the new coach of Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Football Federation (SAFF) has just officially announced the news. The “white wizard” thus succeeds the Argentine Juan Antonio Pizzi.
Renard signed a two-and-a-half year contract with SAFF, the local press reported on Sunday.
It should be noted that the Frenchman has never been at the helm of an Asian team. Before landing in Saudi Arabia, Hervé Renard (50) had led several African teams, including Morocco, Zambia, Angola and Côte d’Ivoire.
He has two African Cup of Nations football tournaments to his credit, with Zambia in 2012 and Côte d’Ivoire in 2015.
Saudi Arabia, which is preparing for the second phase of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, is housed in Group D alongside Uzbekistan, Palestine, Yemen and Singapore.
