Last week, rumors began to swirl that a new Real Housewives franchise was on the horizon. Within hours the general consensus was that Dallas was the likely target. Today, Bravo has put us out of our misery and announced not one, but TWO, new Housewife franchises that will air in 2016. Real Housewives of Potomac will air in January 2016 and Dallas will follow sometime thereafter (exact date TBD). In June 2011, Variety interviewed Andy Cohen about the state of reality TV. At the time, Bravo had replicated its “Real Housewives of Orange County” formula in six additional locales: New York, Atlanta, New Jersey, Miami, Beverly Hills and Washington, D.C. Variety asked Cohen if there any bandwidth left for more shallow women with deep pockets? Cohen said yes, if the cast is right. “You only want cities with strong points of view, cities that have strong regional personalities,” he explained. “We’ve tried to mount a Texas (incarnation), but we never hit the nail on the head with casting.”
Casting for a docu-drama began in August 2014 and the pitch was for a show tentatively titled "How To Make It In Dallas". In March 2015, Bravo shocked everyone (including the cast) when it announced Ladies of Dallas to their lineup as a follow-up to their smash hit Ladies of London. So how and when did it change to Real Housewives? Good question. A source tells me that once filming wrapped and they started editing the show, Bravo execs were ecstatic over the footage and in a unanimous decision it was decided that the show would not air as Ladies of Dallas, but launch as RHoD. Clearly, they feel that the proverbial nail head has been hit. BAM!  According to Bravo's press release, “The Real Housewives of Dallas” will "follow a group of sophisticated southern socialites, as they claw their way to the top of the city's social scene. The series gives an exclusive look into their glamorous galas, scintillating scandals, and enormous egos, to prove exactly why everything is bigger in Texas."
If you plan to watch RHoD, you will want to bookmark this blog, because no one will have more insight into what you are about to witness than me. Believe it. If past franchises/casts are any indication, we are going to have a lot to talk about and it's gonna be JUICY. To those of you who have been tweeting and messaging me to ask if I am on the cast, I am immensely flattered that you think I am witty/pretty/interesting enough to make the cut. Thank you for the ego stroke. We will all have to wait for Bravo to confirm the cast so I can really get to work... Stay tuned!
