It’s Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at BookJourney. I’ve decided to participate on the last Monday of every month, as a monthly wrap-up.
Whew! June was a busy month, and I’m afraid my July reviews will suffer from my lack of reading time. I’ve been taking a graduate class in education statistics two nights a week. I knew it would be a tough subject, but I was not prepared for how much work I’m doing. This is a subject where you have to do the reading, go to every class, do practice questions, homework, etc. or you’ll be lost. I’ll admit with most classes I find I can skim & bluff quite a bit, but not with statistics!
Still, I’m learning a lot, and I’m glad that this subject I’ve found so mystifying for years is finally starting to make sense.
My sister visited last week and it was great to spend time with her, my brother-in-law, and my niece who just graduated high school. Oh, and I turned 43 last week, which is not a birthday you make a big fuss about — which is good since I had to take a 2-hour midterm that day. I don’t mind getting older, exactly. It just was kind of a stressful week.
So what did I read in June?
- Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt
- Twelfth Night by Deanna Raybourn
- The Golem and the Jinni by Helen Wecker
Twelfth Night was nothing to get too excited about, but the other two were fantastic! Then I started the new Diana Gabaldon book, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, and I’m only about 65% through. I’d happily take days off just to read this book, but I can’t, and class is taking up most of my free time. So I expect I’ll be reading this gigantic book well into July. Not that I mind!
I posted a lot of reviews in June, mainly because we traveled in May, and also because most of them were NetGalley reads, so I feel obligated to review them promptly.
- Twelfth Night (novella) by Deanna Raybourn
- Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt
- Child of a Hidden Sea by A.M. Dellamonica
- The Girl in the Road by Monica Byrne
- California Bones by Greg Van Eekhout
- The Memory Garden by Mary Rickert
Not much progress on challenges this month. Tell the Wolves I’m Home counts for the TBR Pile Challenge and a new challenge over at The Estella Society. The Girl in the Road counts towards the Around the World challenge. I haven’t read anything for the Classics Club in a while, so I’m thinking about The Awakening or Far from the Madding Crowd.
It’s Monday, what are you reading? Hope your summer is going well and happy 4th of July!
