Disregard the craptasticly messy movie shelf. And yes, it's normal for our house to look like it's inhabited by a pack of wolves ... why do you ask?
Seriously, how cool is this kid?? :-)And how hard do you think it would be to make a Tardis out of a shoebox? I think that'll be Homeschool Project #1 of the new year. You've gotta admit ... WAY cooler than a diorama.
It's Monday, What Are You Reading? hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
Special Request: We're looking at ways to improve the content of this blog in the new year, and I'd be most grateful if you'd hop over here and respond to our reader questionnaire, if you haven't done so already. I am loving the suggestions and comments we've gotten so far. :-)
Posts This Week:
Checking in on Wednesday -- Awards, Interesting Facts About Me, and Stuff -- My first "real" job (journalist), experience with exhibitionists, worst pick-up line, my personal connection to O Brother, Where Art Thou, and other random crap about myself.
Film Review: Some Mother's Son
Film Review: Caché
Other Movies I Watched:
Horrible Bosses (rewatch): One of my guilty pleasures
Looper (4.5/5 stars): Better than I'd expected. Of course, I'm an easy sell for a movie like this. Memories and time travel are two themes that fascinate me. I do love the wibbledy wobbledy timey wimey stuff.
Three Kings (4.5/5 stars): Blend of action and drama set at the end of Operation Desert Storm. Excellent -- I've never seen anything like it. Recommended by Alex. I will probably post about this soon -- it'll be something a little different from a traditional movie review.
Pulp Fiction (5/5): This is my husband's and my go-to movie when we need something to cheer us up. Yes, really. I know how freaking sick that sounds, and I don't care. ;-)
ParaNorman (3.5/5): O.K. movie. Had good kid entertainment value in our house.
Upcoming Posts:
Sarah, my daughter & co-blogger, is working on a list of her 101 Favorite Movies -- it will be posted soon. Some of her favorite films will be familiar to most readers and some are quite obscure.
This week, I will share my 5/5 star review of Flesh by Khanh Ha and my interview with the author.
from Goodreads: The setting is Tonkin (northern Vietnam) at the turn of the 20th century. A boy, Tai, witnesses the beheading of his father, a notorious bandit, and sets out to recover his head and then to find the man who betrayed his father to the authorities. On this quest, Tai’s entire world will shift. FLESH takes the reader into dark and delightful places in the human condition, places where allies are not always your friends, true love hurts, and your worst enemy may bring you the most comfort. In that emotionally harrowing world, Tai must learn to deal with new responsibilities in his life while at the same time acknowledging his bond, and his resemblance, to a man he barely knew--his father.
Currently Reading:
Case Histories (Jackson Brodie #1) by Kate Atkinson -- This was recommended by numerous book bloggers, including Wendy at Musings of a Bookish Kitty. I am really liking it so far.
From Goodreads:Books & Movies I'll Dive Into Soon:
Case one: A little girl goes missing in the night.
Case two: A beautiful young office worker falls victim to a maniac's apparently random attack.
Case three: A new mother finds herself trapped in a hell of her own making - with a very needy baby and a very demanding husband - until a fit of rage creates a grisly, bloody escape.
Thirty years after the first incident, as private investigator Jackson Brodie begins investigating all three cases, startling connections and discoveries emerge.
My Journey as a Combat Medic: From Desert Storm to Operation Enduring Freedom by Patrick Thibeault
