It’s Brunch O’clock

“Throw a brunch party” is one of the items on my bucket list (yep, I like to keep a few softballs in there to make me feel productive), so I’m happy to finally cross that one off last week! We dusted off the patio furniture, threw some flowers into mason jars, and invited a few friends over to start the day off with a bang!

I’m SO glad my friends love to eat as much as I do, because there was a lot of food going on. We feasted on deviled eggs and fruit salad. And chicks in a blanket, which substitutes apple chicken sausage for traditional cocktail wieners – yum! And smoked salmon dip with bagel chips. And chicken and waffles. And blueberry muffin top cookies, which I’m kind of obsessed with now because they really did taste like the very best part of a muffin! And last but not least, a cheesy hashbrown casserole.

Of course it wouldn’t be a legit brunch without some delicious cocktails to go with all that food! Smirnoff was kind enough to send over a few bottles of their new Sorbet Light vodkas for all of us to try, and we had a lot of fun whipping up some refreshing drinks. They’re infused with 100% natural fruit flavors so there’s no gross artificial tinge (the Mango Passion Fruit one smells HEAVENLY), plus they’re lower in calories than other dessert-inspired vodkas – win win!

For the brunch, we made Tropical Martinis, which were very light and not too sweet; Citrus Punch, which had a strong grapefruit taste with refreshing hints of lemon; and Raspberry Lemon Punch, which tasted like the epitome of summer – a boozy berry lemonade. This was the crowd favorite out of the 3 cocktails! Toby dressed up in hopes of scoring a drink of his own, but unfortunately he didn’t have any valid ID :-) All in all, the Sorbet Light vodkas were quite tasty, and I’d definitely consider buying these for future parties.

- 1.5 oz Raspberry Pomegranate Smirnoff Sorbet Light
- 4 oz lemonade
- 4 raspberries muddled

Smirnoff Sorbet Light Tropical Martini
- 1.5 oz Mango Passion Fruit Smirnoff Sorbet Light
- 1.5 oz coconut water
- 1 oz pineapple juice

Smirnoff Sorbet Light Citrus Punch
- 1.5 oz Lemon Smirnoff Sorbet Light
- 2.5 oz grapefruit juice

So the end lesson of all this is that eating and drinking with good friends under the summer sun is a fantastic way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Maybe brunch parties will become the new dinner party? Cheers!
