In 2020, the new independent brand Poco released optimized versions of existing Redmi phones. The Poco X2 was originally introduced in China as the Redmi K30 4G and the Poco F2 Pro as the Redmi K30 Pro.
Now it looks like it's Redmi's turn to ape Poco, as the previously unseen Redmi 9T has appeared in an unofficial unboxing video on YouTube. Expert tech journalist Myriam Joire's video shows what is essentially a Poco M3 phone with a few tweaks. Check it out below.
Probably the biggest change affects the camera arena, as the Redmi 9T offers a 48-megapixel quad rear camera setup with a newly added 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera. This is a notable change from the Poco device, which offered a disappointing 48-megapixel triple camera (main / depth / macro) setup.
We also see an optimized camera body (see main picture) as the Redmi device sets off the signature camera body of the Poco M3 in favor of a more traditional bump.

Otherwise, Joire notes that the Redmi 9T has the same specs as the Poco phone. That means a 6.53-inch FHD + LCD screen with a waterdrop notch, Snapdragon 662 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a huge 6,000mAh battery, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Don't expect NFC support, however, much like the Poco device.
We have asked Xiaomi to clarify prices, availability and specifications in general and will update the article as soon as we hear from them. Even so, the Poco M3 is already available in Europe, but has not yet reached India. Presumably, the Redmi 9T will hit the latter market instead of the Poco device.
