I've seen this quote (and more) pop up on my Facebook feed one too many times, usually accompanied by this image of a smiling and accepting Pope Francis.
I'm more than happy to now also see that it's being countered by Snopes.com and others.
I'm of the firm and necessary belief and take great comfort in knowing that God comes to us in the person of Christ in a variety of ways and that He will do so time and again but I'm also of the firm and necessary belief that we must do what we can to correct that which is in fact heresy to Catholics.
Attending Mass is an obligation to Catholics. The Church clearly and unequivocally teaches that "those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin". The Pope would never go against a foundational Catholic tenet.
We rightly do what we will to believe that Christ embraces every person because He in fact does but we must also do what we will to counter falsehoods that deny basic tenets of a most beauitiful faith.
Even when it costs us to do so.
