Verdict on Island in Between
Recap
This is a documentary looking at the islands of Kinmen close to mainland China but owned by Taiwan. Director S Leo Chiang explores the history of the island and the relationship between China and the United States.
Best Parts
This does an excellent job of showing us an unlikely stronghold against the might of China. It shows how the years of battling have left Kinmen in a position of caution but attraction to bring something different to China. This also raises more awareness of the differences between China and Taiwan.
Worst Parts
This does a great job of showing the relationship between the nations. However, it doesn’t seem to do enough to dive into the history of what caused the tension to start with. It feels more like an introduction to a much bigger documentary that could explore a lot more.
Final Thoughts – Island In Between is an interesting documentary, exploring international relations.
