American actress Julia Butters, known for her roles in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “The Fabelmans,” may join the cast of the second part of “Freaky Friday” on Disney. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Disney confirmed the highly anticipated sequel last year and announced in March that Nisha Ganatra will direct the film.
Although Disney has not yet confirmed the official cast for the movie, fans are hopeful that the stars of the original film, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, will return.
Andrew Gunn, the producer of the original “Freaky Friday,” is set to produce the sequel along with former Walt Disney Pictures executive Kristin Burr.
In a 2023 interview with The New York Times, Curtis and Lohan talked about the potential for a sequel. Curtis shared, “During my global tour for ‘Halloween Ends,’ many people asked if there would be another ‘Freaky Friday.’ It struck a chord with me. When I returned, I contacted my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.'”
Adding to the excitement, Lohan stated, “Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”
The duo also celebrated on social media when Ganatra was hired to direct the body-swapping comedy.
Curtis shared a photo with Lohan on Instagram and tagged Disney in the caption. She added,
“Freaky Friday,” released in August 2003, received critical acclaim and is considered a cult classic in Hollywood. It earned $160.8 million worldwide. The film is a remake of a 1977 movie starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster. Gary Nelson directed the fantasy-comedy film, which was based on Mary Rodgers’s 1972 novel of the same name.
