Cinque Terre, Italy

Cinque Terre is a glorious region on the western coast of Italy. It is nestled just above Tuscany, and is apart of a national park, featuring terraced agricultural land and colourful towns. Although it only has around 4,000 residents, it attracts over 2.4 million tourists every year. Visitors head to this region for many delights, including beach days, delicious wine, and charming townships. Still not convinced? Cinque Terre at its best

There is no point traveling the Cinque Terre if you choose them from dates. High season begins around the Easter weekend and lasts until October time. The busiest months between this time is typically May through August. This is usually the warmest months in the year, resulting in sweltering hot days and the streets and hotels jam-packed. The low season is within the month of November, which is when rain is at its highest, due to the region mostly being perfect for summer activities.

The Perfect Spots to Visit

Monterosso

Within Cinque Terre, there are five villages worth the visit, with each as different as the next. Monterosso is within the north of Cinque Terre and is renowned for being the biggest and flattest region about. There are two parts to it, known as the New and Old Town. The town features a long stretch of sandy beach with delightfully elegant hotels found in the village section.

Vernazza

If you are looking for your next Instagram post, Vernazza is by far the most picturesque spot to choose. Featuring small sandy beaches, steep stairs, and epic lookout points of the surrounding region. The accommodation available here bright, breezy rooms, offering stunning views atop the hills. If you are an avid hiker, head towards Corniglia and trek along the L’Eremo sul Mare or the Hermitage Over the Sea.

Corniglia

This is the smallest of the Cinque Terre villages and is the only one not directly against the oceanfront. It is set high up on a cliff, with over 350 steps to climb to reach the village top. Despite its smaller size and no beach zone, it is lower on the tourist percentage than the other villages. Giving visitors a better look into the local community than the rest of Cinque Terre.

Manarola

Most visit Manarola for its glorious marina, featuring a cascade of colourful houses against the jagged clifftop, all tumbling down towards the seafront. Instead of a beach, there is simply large rocks which locals lie on that border the shallow seashore. Giving you a truly unique seaside visit in this charming village!

Riomaggiore

Cinque Terre’s south village is Riomaggiore, with a similar style as Manarola, but with a slightly livelier nightlife. The beach is rocky, but the outdoor DJs and concerts make it the perfect place to be during the sunset. The village is also home to some gorgeous historic sites, with a 45-minute hike up the hill at the top of town to Santuario, a church with stunning panoramic views of the region.

Hike the Region

Majority of the area’s attractions lies in the outdoors, with hiking one of the best ways to travel the region! Cinque Terre is naturally stunning, with dozens of paths weaving between the villages and clifftops. Head along these paths and see historic buildings and natural wonders which will have you gasping in awe!

Hit the Water

If you’re not one for walking, you can still enjoy the stunning natural scenery by simply hopping into the crystal blue waters of the area. Many simply head to the beach for a day of sunbaking and swimming, but others wanting a little bit more excitement can enjoy the local scuba diving and snorkelling in Riomaggiore. Even paragliding in Monterosso or kayaking the coast in Vernazza!

Visit the Vineyards

Winemaking is one of the main industries in Cinque Terre, with almost every bit of land loaded with lush vineyards. Hop from one winery to the next and sip on the endless glasses of reds, whites, and sparkling wines!
