Iris Apfel: Iris The Coloring Book

"I am so happy, I have in my hands a copy of Iris The Coloring Book dedicated to a good part of the past century. It is a great day for me. Enjoy yourselves!"

They are the words of Iris Apfel, 98 years old, who from his Instagram profile presents his latest work of genius and creativity, a book by 16 coloring pages made in collaboration with the University of Texas. Among his most iconic quotes you will find illustrations of his travels, the garments of his wardrobe and even some design pieces of the eccentric furniture of his home.

The style icon - which turns 99 in August - never stops create, invent, play with fashion and design. In fact, she says that working without ever stopping is the only thing that makes her feel good, especially since her husband passed away in 2015.

And even during the pandemic this was precisely the "recipe" to overcome the difficult moment. Iris spent her lockdown in Palm Beach, and told People that she often happened to scold her friends who called her complaining. He told them the important thing was to be healthy. "We just have to learn to make the best of this situation too." And she always finds the way. So, for example, he tells of having dedicated herself to Instagram: he had opened a profile only because they had recommended it to him but this was the right occasion to follow him and "have fun". Then there was the commitment of the book, of course. She really wants everyone to have fun with pencils and markers that use light, bright and vivid colors, those that help us feel better. And while he was there he joined both creating an IG profile to the book.

The proceeds from the book, which are on sale on the University's website for $ 45, will go towards funding the scholarships for UT fashion students from Austin, where she is herself Visiting Professor. Over the past 10 years, Apfel has hosted a special program: a week for 16 university students, the best, in which he tells them about the infinite variety of job opportunities in fashion.
