iPhone 12 rumors and leaks: What major we expect from Apple in 2020
The standout rumors about Apple's future iPhones for 2020.
Even though Apple launched its trio of iPhone 11 versions a mere four months ago in September, the rumor mill is already looking across the horizon and speculating about 2020 as well as the forthcoming iPhone 12 (some rumors have already started for the 2021 iPhones). Bear in mind that we do not understand what the new iPhones' official titles will be - and Apple hasn't confirmed anything about them - so we will go with the iPhone 12 for today. Along with adding 3D depth-sensing to its back cameras and new screen sizes, it is also being speculated that Apple will belatedly incorporate a feature that would allow it to be competitive with its rivals: 5G connectivity.
It'll be several months before we approach the predicted launch of the iPhone 12, 12 Guru, and 12 Pro Max in September 2020, but check back with this piece often as we'll continue to update it with the most likely and persuasive rumors.
iPhone 12 could have larger and smaller screens
Among the more enduring rumors about the upcoming iPhones is that Apple may introduce new display sizes. Among the iPhone, 12s might have a 5.4-inch display (of the recent iPhones, the iPhone 11 Pro has the smallest screen, which measures 5.8 inches). Along with the iPhone 2020 Pro Max could go as big as 6.7 inches (for reference, the iPhone 11 Pro Max includes a 6.5-inch screen ).
There is also speculation that the iPhone 12's screen will have a 120Hz refresh rate. Most telephones refresh at 60 frames per second, or 60Hz, but other phones, such as the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7 Pro, update at 90Hz. The gambling handset that the Razer Phone 2 includes a 120Hz screen also. Even though having a higher refresh rate, a phone feels quicker and simpler when scrolling through items like web pages and programs.
Apple may launch five new iPhones in 2020
With the possibility of new screen sizes, rumors that Apple will expand its iPhone lineup have been swirling around. In December, CNET's Lexy Savvides wrote:
According to JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee, Apple will launch four new iPhone 12 models from the autumn of 2020: a 5.4-inch version, two 6.1-inch telephones, and a 6.7-inch phone. They all will have OLED displays.
These dimensions predictions were also endorsed this week by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who considers the present 5.8-inch size of the iPhone 11 Guru might be moving away. So the 5.4-inch and among the 6.1-inch models are the lower-end apparatus, presumably referred to as the iPhone 12. Then the more expensive phones are the other 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, respectively.
The fifth iPhone is then going to be a sequel to the iPhone SE, which is rumored to seem more like the iPhone 8, and we could see as early as the first quarter of 2020.
iPhone 12 could usher in 5G (or not)
Apple's in no hurry to start a 5G iPhone, and, likely, you won't find one until this season - or even as late as 2025. Apple analyst Kuo optimistically predicts the company will unveil three 5G mobiles in 2020. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, Apple usually is not the first in on mobile trends, preferring instead to perfect an emerging technology before committing to it. Bear in mind that it was behind its rivals in making phones with 3G and 4G LTE connectivity when those networks launched.
Secondly, Apple, at one point, stopped working with the significant 5G modem supplier, Qualcomm, due to a dispute over Qualcomm's licensing fees. Both companies settled their lawsuit in April 2019 and then consented to a multiyear 5G chip bargain. This led to Apple's previous partner for 5G modems, Intel, to finally depart the 5G phone modem company altogether. (Apple later obtained Intel's smartphone unit for $1 billion.) Apple is back working with Qualcomm, but it got started too late to start a 5G phone last year after some of its rivals released its 5G versions, such as the Galaxy S10 5G, LG V50 5G, and OnePlus 7 Pro 5G.
When it comes to creating a proprietary 5G chip, The Information reported in May 2019 it would take Apple years to design its in-house 5G modem. "In interviews with potential hires for the group, Apple has advised engineers which they expect to have their modem prepared by 2025," reported that the socket, citing an anonymous source.
iPhone 12 may have 3D thickness sensing in rear cameras
Since the iPhone X, newer iPhones have front-facing cameras that have 3D thickness sensing. Called Face ID, this feature scans your face for unlocking your phone and deletes electronic payments. It has been rumored that Apple may take it up a notch and present that same system to the back cameras. In August, CNET's Vanessa Orellana wrote:
Longtime Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (through MacRumors and 9to5Mac) said he expects two of the 2020 iPhones versions to have a new time-of-flight camera lens on the back of the telephone. The setup would be like that of the present True Depth camera system used for Face ID on the front of the phone, but it might use a slightly different sort of technology that could let it 3D map objects from farther away. This would significantly enhance its augmented reality software and take certain camera features like Portrait Mode into another level.
It's unclear how a lot of the 2020 iPhones would be equipped with this feature if any.+
