Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission officers arrested the SI of the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Ipalogama Police station and a police constable while accepting a bribe of Rs.30,000 on Thursday.
The bribe had been given by the brother of a suspect arrested for selling illicit liquor. Police officers had allegedly promised to release the suspect without enforcing the law.
A senior police officer from Anuradhapura said that the two officers were arrested by the Bribery Commission’s investigation department while accepting the bribe inside the police station.
The Anuradhapura police authorities had also taken steps to suspend the two police officers yesterday. They will be produced in court.
