Three brothers from Farnham, Surrey, The Venus Lyx have already played The Summer Westival and various shows around the local area and on the South Coast, as well as with Spectral Nights favourites Sister Leona. Now they’ve released the first track from what could be a new EP, called ‘Saint Mary Waking Home’.
Recorded live at Spiral Studios in Guildford, the track has a very slow-burning beginning, with what seems like a direct nod to Nick Cave, before an almost skiffle sound bursts in around the one-and-a-half minute mark. After this, the song pacifies a little as it veers into 80s indie territory a la The Cure before the final minute captures the spirit of rock & roll, Jim Morrison-style. Veering into different directions at unexpected times, we’re sure we’ll be hearing more from The Venus Lyx in the coming months.
