The Grand Union Canal almost completely chops my patch in half, so it often features on my blog posts if for nothing other than the journey I take passing underneath and through the cattle creep of the Iron Trunk Aqueduct.
In summer it is a mecca for walkers and fishermen, with plenty of barges travelling through, as they slowly motor their way between destinations from London to Birmingham. I must admit it is not an area I spend much time walking but it has been a productive area at times and is a feature that deserves special mention if for nothing more than it's history.
Introducing the Patch - Grand Union Canal
I have fished, walked, and photographed the Grand Union canal at Old Wolverton many, many times, and have seen all manner of wildlife here. But I must say Spring is my favourite time to walk this stretch, there are less people and usually good numbers of butterfly seeking out an early existence in the blackthorn and elder flowers that line the banks.
