We recently featured Barnaby Socks on Man of Many and since wearing them around the office all week, I’ve never had so many compliments on my ankles. We were lucky enough to sit down with the Barnaby boys from Melbourne to hear what make’s them tick and how the pair keep it together while running their own business (hint! it may have a little to do with that handy button!).
Barnaby. What’s the story being the name?
We wanted to create a brand that was elegant, fun and sophisticated. The name Barnaby is a name we came across that we believe comprises these elements. A cool name for a cool brand.
Tell us why and how got into the sock business?
There’s nothing better than wearing a fresh pair of socks. So we created a brand that makes quality socks with great colours and our own designs, and sell them at a reasonable price point.
We’re seeing a lot of brightly coloured and boldly patterned socks these days. Why do think this is?
The trend has been prominent in European countries for years. People are trying to find new ways to express themselves and also add some color to their outfits. Someone told us that bright socks remind them not to take everything too seriously and have a bit of fun.
Why is it import to rock a good pair of socks?
A good pair of socks is made from quality material and if you’re lucky they have a good design. There is no better feeling than putting on a comfortable pair of socks in the morning. It is the closest thing to walking on clouds.
What makes Barnaby a superior sock?
The quality, the button and the designs. Made from high quality combed cotton, each pair of Barnaby socks comes with a button to help keep them together. Because we design all our socks from scratch – our designs are always going to be unique.
How would you describe the ‘Barnaby’ man?
Cool. Likes to take care of himself but also doesn’t take himself too seriously. Everyone wants to be his best friend.

What can we expect from Barnaby in 2014?
More designs. We are looking to grow significantly in 2014 with a strong focus on collaborating with more distributors and retailers. If we can get Barnaby socks onto more feet we will be happy.
