Perth's Daybreak are returning to the fore of heavy Australian music with the video for their brand new single Lost Sentience. The track features Mark Poida from Aversions Crown on guest vocals. The decimatingly huge track is the first slice of their forthcoming EP 'Death Dreams' - which will be released on Friday July 28th.
Tomatrax caught up with Shaun Cox, the band's lead singer, to ask a few questions.
Where did the name Daybreak come from?Basically we were all on the train on the way to a local show one time, we had a show booked but still didn't have a name. So we went through our phones looking at song names to name our band after and we ended up choosing Daybreak by Architects. Huge regrets now because its a terrible name but oh well.
What made you pick 'Lost Sentience' as your latest single?We all feel like each track is as strong as each other, Lost Sentience was the last song we wrote and we still hadn't pick a song to be the single. So it was always destined to be the first song off the EP.
The track features Mark Poida from Aversions Crown on guest vocals, how did the collaboration come about?We were all cooked in the car on the way to Blakes house one time and we were listening to the instrumental version of Lost Sentience. In my head I imagined how sick it would be to have Marks gutturals over that chugging pattern, so then and there we decided we had to make it happen.
You have an EP coming out next month, how will the rest of the EP compare with 'Lost Sentience'?As said previously, we believe each song is as strong as each other. I think listeners will be surprised that when listening to the EP you never really get a break to gather your thoughts before the next cool bit comes on.
Where did the title 'Death Dreams' come from?The EP is basically about wishing certain people wouldn't be there any more. So we come up with Death Dreams
What was the inspiration behind the EP's cover?The artwork pretty much represents coming out on top of those bad situations.

Do you ever listen to your own music?We probably haven't listened to anything as much as we've listened to this EP.
What other music do you listen to?A bit of everything really. Melodic Hardcore, Cloud Rap, Country, Slam, bit of this, bit of that you know?
What do you have planned once the EP is out?Hopefully a bunch of tours to promote it around the country before we start writing again.
