Interview with Sharn

Sharn is a 26 year old singer/songwriter from Wellington NZ. Creating original music and writing songs inspired by his perspective of life. With a unique sound and soulful voice he'll take you on a journey into his mind, sharing messages of peace and freedom of self expression to the world.

Tomatrax caught up with Sharn to ask a few questions.

What inspired you to become a musician?

I think the ability to express my emotions and feelings through writing and singing original music was my biggest inspiration.

When did you write your first song?

I remember writing songs at school but the first song I created with a beat, lyrics and everything was when I had just turned 18. Working on a cruise ship I bought my first lap top with a music making program on it called Garageband, I learned how to make a beat and recorded my first song. I think I called it "How", probably referring to "How did I not know this awesome program existed"

You just released your debut single, what's it like to have it out?

It's pretty surreal, I'm super stoked to have my first single out there. I've had some great feedback and I'm just excited for the future ahead.

What made you pick 'Born' as your debut single?

I think that it has a great message to share and is something I personally believe.

Are there any plans to release an album?

I definitely would love to release an album, maybe not just yet though. I recorded a 4 song EP last year which was a lot harder than I thought, so ill give myself a bit more time for an album.

Where do you get the inspiration for your lyrics?

I try to think with an open mind and write songs about random thoughts or deep feelings that I have.

What's the music scene like in Wellington?

The live music scene in Wellington is great, you can find something on somewhere in the city nearly every night. I like to perform at open mic nights and see other local talent around the city.

Do you ever listen to your own music?

I go through phases, sometimes it's all I listen to if I'm in the creating process and other times I really can't stand it.

What other music do you listen to?

I love Hip Hop and Alternative Pop but I listen to nearly everything.

Now that your single is out, what do you plan on doing next?

I have a few gigs coming up this year and two shows that I'm involved in including "WOW" World of Wearable Arts. But my main focus is to continue creating music and growing my set to perform live
