Adelaide’s psychedelic rockers Glass Skies have just out out their debut, self titled EP. Tomatrax caught up with Azz, guitarist and lead singer from the band, to ask a few questions.
How did the band form?
Our last band Lady Strangelove fell apart so Josh and I left and started Glass Skies.
Where did the name Glass Skies come from?
Josh came up with that. We were going to call it “Glassy Eyes” due to all the good times we were having but that was taken.
You’ve just released your debut EP, what’s it like to have it out?
It’s great to have it out and also a relief. All of those songs are almost 2 years old, some 5.
What made you decide to make it self titled?
Doing whatever it took to speed up the process of getting the EP out, haha.
You’ve received a fair amount of critical acclaim for your first few singles, has this made you feel any pressure when putting the EP out?
Not really, we are just stoked they are finally out.
Was it hard to pick what went on the EP?
Not really, it was more or less what had the most potential. I think all the songs stand against each other with the same quality. Our next EP could be all singles or all journeys, its really up to the best material we have on hand at the time.
You’ve listed road trips as an influence, have you ever written music while on the road?
We haven’t physically played our instruments in the car (not living the tour bus dream yet, haha) but we always listen to demos in the car and constantly change things up. The drive between Adelaide and Melbourne is around 9 hours so you have plently of time to make decisions.
You’ve been touring round the country to launch the EP, how has that been going?
Its been great. Sydney was crazy, heaps of new faces dancing about, really good energy. Adelaide is always nice playing to your hometown. We have our launch this Saturday in Melbourne at the Grace Darling and a loose 2am show at Public Bar. We are heading to NT to play the Desert Dreaming Festival at the end of the month.
You’ve entered songs on Triple J’s Unearthed page, has this had any impact on your music’s exposure?
We were stoked Triple J got on board, that definitely helped with publicity on social media and meeting new people.
Do you ever listen to your own music?
Once the songs are released we don’t usually listen to them again for ages. After listening to them a thousand times in the mixing process we set them free and have a break. Listening back to the songs months later and still being happy with them is a joy though.
What music do you listen to?
We have a very broad range of music that we listen to as our attention spans are atrocious. We also have a strong belief through previous discoveries that you can find greatness in all genres. Currently the soundtrack to our jam breaks and road trips are….

Now that the EP is out, what do you plan on doing next?
We are mixing the first single from our next EP as we speak. We aim to play Sydney and Melbourne more often and write better songs.
