Spanish four-piece garage rock outfit Hinds, formerly known as Deers, are adventuring beyond Europe and are about to tour round Australia. Tomatrax caught up with Ana from the band to ask a few questions.
You recently had to change your name, was it a shock to hear about another band called the Deers?
well, it was more shock the way they treated us because they weren’t even called the deers!! there are so many bands with the same name …. peace mate!
What made you pick the name Hinds?
we love hinds because it means the female deer!!! so we think it’s a good choice hahah as we are girls.. you know…
Does it feel strange having a different name?
haha we are happy now, it took time to get used but we are now!
You’ll be touring Australia, what can fans expect from your shows?
CRAZY DANCING, CRAZY DRINKING, CRAZY MOANING-SHOUTS!
Your latest single, Trippy Gum, has a certain improvised, DIY feel to it, was that how the song was put together?
haha yes! exactly like that!!
Are there any plans to release an album?
OF COURSE!!! we can’t wait!!!! recording it in April , releasing it just after summer!!
Given you’re from Spain, why do you write songs in English?
it just came out like that, it wasn’t a decision! I guess it is because all the music we listen to is in English :)
Your music has been described as a combination of the Velvet Underground and the Beach Boys, do you think that’s a fair call?
puf, it’s such a compliment tho hahah we love the velvet underground, Lou reed was a real boss.
What is the music scene in Madrid like?
you can go to gigs every weekend if you want!! it’s really alive!! come and see it !
Do you ever listen to your own music?
hahahha … YES. but, seriously, so many times . we know it’s an awkward thing, but we really like the music we do
What other music do you listen to?
we love mac demarco and fat white family, and the black lips, and kendrick lamar, and Juan wauters, and the parrots and Lois.
What do you plan on doing after your tour?
going to americaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!! and always have fun
