The Kalutara Magistrate’s Courts yesterday ordered a group of Chinese nationals arrested in Aluthgama on Saturday for allegedly defrauding money from people around the world through the Internet to be remanded until April 6.
Interpreters were used to obtain statements from the arrested Chinese nationals in court.Among the arrested are 33 men, five women and a child.
They had reportedly been staying in Sri Lanka for six months. Some of them during questioning have said they were kept against their will and forced to engage in online financial crimes.
Police had also seized computers,smartphones and money from the suspects.
