I was a tiny bit obsessed with flooring options for a while, back when I was contemplating an affordable means of replacing the white wall-to-wall carpet in our Florida condo. I gathered all sorts of photos and resources, including all these images of rooms with herringbone floors, which I’d finally like to share.
I ultimately chose cork flooring, which I really love. (Here’s a finished photo plus 24 rooms with cork flooring.) It’s so hard to figure out where to go if you don’t have a personal recommendation. If only there was a mobile showroom like this one by (StyleCarrot partner) Conklin Bros. in San Francisco. Who doesn’t love a rolling restaurant or boutique after all.
Herringbone floors connote a distinctly Parisian style. You know the look—tall skinny windows with a view of the Eiffel Tower, sky-high ceilings trimmed in fanciful (but not overly prominent) molding, glossy black doors, gilt mirrors and crystal chandeliers paired with modern furnishings. Ok enough. Let’s look at these spaces with herringbone floors, from living rooms and kitchens to bedrooms and bathrooms.

Ferm Living founder Trine Anderson’s loft has an expansive entry hall with oak herringbone floors and modern furnishings. I adore that wood and leather cot under the abstract painting, plus that little Ferm Living geometric rug in unexpected pastel hues.

Noho loft designed by Jenny Wolf has what looks to be original herringbone wood floors that match the live edge wood bench in the entry. I love the tall black entry door and black chandelier. That brass sconce is suspended with horsehair.

This living room has an earthy vibe that channels an Upper West Side psychologist’s office, but with more polish thanks to the herringbone flooring. These don’t look particularly old; there are many flooring experts that can help achieve a similar look.

Dark and pitted, these herringbone floors look like the real deal. The tall skinny windows tell me this could be Paris, plus there’s that divine crystal chandelier.

An eclectic mix of furnishings, plus a funky paint job—who would imagine a black wall works with a half pink wall—along with unfinished wood herringbone floors.

Another spare dining room with herringbone floors. Interior designer Natalia Sanchez Echevarria of Spatial Code chose mid century modern bentwood chairs around a modern live edge wood dining table. Clear glass pendant lights keep things airy.

Jenny Wolf designed this New York apartment. The herringbone floor in the bathroom looks to be wood rather than tile. I love the black wall mounted double vanity.

The black and white floral wallpaper stands up well against the herringbone floors with a medium brown stain. The black toilet seat is a nice touch.
