Lingerie, like the first move in a romance should be flirtatious, charming, expressive, and avoid cliché – and the handmade pieces of Miss Crofton are impeccably right. Twenty-five-year-old designer and entrepreneur Georgia Campbell, who grew up in Mallorca, founded the label following a single term at the London College of Fashion and a stint working at soap retailer Lush.
“College was a shambles,” she recalls. “I thought: ‘Oh my god, I’ve left home for this?’” It was her roommate (“we were sharing a room in this big house to save rent”) who suggested starting a fashion stall at Broadway Market. At first they sold everything from vintage scarves to patchwork pillows but Georgia soon went solo to focus on her passion: making fabulous pants (and more). Miss Crofton was born just four years ago and already the sexy, quirky, handcrafted knickers, bras, shorts and leotards are available at stockists in Britain, Japan, Greece, the USA and Spain, as well as online.
Georgia, who makes 30 to 50 pieces each week, aims to expand while staying true to the label’s bespoke ethos by commissioning seamstresses to hand-sew her designs. “Sometimes I crave a regular salary,” she admits. “But I’ve put so much effort into Miss Crofton that I don’t think I could work for someone else.”

Music? Arcade Fire. I have tried to decide which is my favorite song before but it’s not possible. They are consistently good! Don’t know how they do it.
Month? April – I like spring.
Model? Chloe Sevigny. She is always interesting looking. I love her in American Psycho.

Designer? It’s men’s wear and totally irrelevant to ladies underwear but Paul Smith has to be my favorite. I love that he keeps things simple and doesn’t try to be ridiculous with his designs. I watched a programme about him and his work recently and it made me admire him even more.
Lingerie item? Pants. The high-waisted 50s style is my favorite to make and wear.
