In the latest installment of the Inside True Blood Blog Gianna Sobol talked to Christina Jokanovich, a co-producer on the hit HBO show about table reads and what they are all about. When a table read takes place executives from HBO attend along with cast members, Alan Ball, Gregg Fineberg, the writers and producers, director of the episode, script supervisor, casting directors, Christina herself, the writer’s assistant, script coordinator, and the editor and assistant editor of the episode. They use the table read as an opportunity for everyone to hear the episode out loud and they can get a better idea if the episode works as well as it does on paper. This is the last chance for any script revisions to be made before the episode is filmed. If an actor is unable to attend the script reading someone else fills in (evidently Alan Ball does a mean Lafayette impression) and Jokanovich says this is her favorite part of the process because its like ”going to True Blood: The Play… Free theater!”.
