Story: Infinity Pool starts when couple James (Skarsgård) and Em (Coleman) are vacationing on a luxury island. They meet another couple Gabi (Goth) and Alban (Lespert) who talk them into leaving the resort to head into the more dangerous mainland. However, an accident sends them on a dangerous journey.
James is offered a chance to escape without punishment. However, it comes at a cost and sees him drawn into a twisted world of violence. James finds himself addicted with the other addicts to this process, which sees them conducting twisted acts to get their fix.
Verdict on Infinity Pool
Infinity Pool is a horror mystery following a man who gets drawn into a world of violence without consequence. It sees him commit a crime and facing punishment, only to be offered a lifeline. However, the price takes a lot of out him, as he is drawn to this new twisted world.
This is an uncomfortable watch, you can see why people like it and why people hate it. It is in the name of the director Cronenberg and just like his father, he creates polarising movies. This is no different and the world we enter is disturbing and uncomfortable to watch. My personal experience wasn’t one I would return to, mainly because of the strobe lighting effects involved. I personally struggle with them, but for the core of the story it is an unique one. There could have been more to everything, but it is nice seeing it feel like a couple vacation time. Never looking to overstay the welcome behind the concept. In a weird way, it felt like The Purge concept, done in a different style.
Final Thoughts – Infinity Pool is extremely uncomfortable to sit through.
