India Warns Nations Against Accepting China’s Aid

Jaisankar got rid of the suggestions that India’s relationship with the West has improved because of differences with China, said Indian relations with the West “quite good” even before June 2020 – when Indian and Chinese troops were involved in brutal clashes left by 20 Indian troops and at least four Chinese soldiers died.

Chinese agreement violations in not massing power in the actual control line (LAC) are the reason why his relationship with India will go through a difficult phase, the Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar said, while warning countries were not sucked into trap debt by receiving Chinese assistance.

Jaishankar made a statement while participating in a discussion about the theme of “regional and security orders in the Indo-Pacific” at the Munich security conference on Saturday. He talked with his Australian and Japanese colleagues, Marise Payne and Yoshimasa Hayashi.

“It’s a problem that we experienced with China. And the problem is this – that for 45 years, there was peace, there was a stable border management, there were no military casualties on the border from 1975,” he said in response to questions about india relations with China .

“It changes, because we have an agreement with China not to bring military forces [for] the actual control line and China violates the agreement. Now, the condition of the border will determine the state of relationships, it is natural.

So, it is clear that the relationship with China is currently through a very difficult phase, “he said, referring to military deadlock which began in May 2020.

He also believes the situation in LAC cannot be compared to the Ukrainian crisis while responding to questions about India who spoke against China’s actions on the LAC while pagingating from voting at the UN Security Council in Ukraine. Both are “different challenges”, he added.

Foreign Minister Bangladesh Ak Abdul Moment, who is among the attendees, raised his country’s problems which required funds for infrastructure projects to meet the people’s aspirations, and China offered “a basket of money” and aggressive and affordable proposals when the help of the other partners came with lots of strings.

Jaishankar responds with countries that warn against being trapped in a debt trap while receiving Chinese assistance. “Competitive international relations, each country will look for opportunities and see what can be done but when doing it, it is their own interest to be wise about what they face,” he said.

“We have seen countries, including in our region, burdened with great debts. We have seen projects commercially unsustainable – airports where a plane does not come, where a ship does not come. I think people will be justified In asking yourself what I got, “he said.
