India will provide Sri Lanka an additional US$ 500 million in financial assistance to buy fuel, Foreign Minister Prof.G.L.Peiris told international reporters on Wednesday.
He further added that Bangladesh was also willing to postpone a US$ 450 million in swap repayments, international media reports said.
“Assistance by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will take about six months to come to us and it will come in tranches. During the intervening period, we need to find funds to keep our people supplied with essentials,” the Minister was quoted saying.
This will be the second US$ 500 million India has provided in fuel credit to Sri Lanka.
