Independence Day

As we celebrate India’s 73rd year of independence from the British on 15th August, many questions come to our mind if we are an emerging power or not. The COVID-19 pandemic has definitely created a bigger change in the world. Yet India has a chance to show the world what a serious global actor can do. This includes boasting partnership, investment in the modern military, strengthening our democracy. The entire world is watching India play a bigger role in the world.

India is being considered as an emerging power by the entire world. The reason for this new trend is rapid economic expansions, demographic trends, language spoken, and youth of our country. But we are still lagging in a few fields to name a few; we must have to overcome our political, social, economical issues. India has the world's second-largest population of which 50% of our population is below 24 years of age which means we have a huge workforce available for many decades. In the coming years where other countries will face a decrease in workforce numbers, India is expected to have a huge increase in the workforce numbers. When other powerful countries will be seen inhibiting economic growth India will be shining with youthful energy.

Talking about foreign languages, India has the world's largest speaking the English language. It covers all professionals including doctors, engineers, lecturers and many other professions all are comfortable in the English language which is another benefit to our countries. Indians also speak Dutch, German, French, Russian, and many other languages along with our own regional languages which is an added advantage to us.

India is the world's largest democracy which is 4 times more than the world’s second-largest democracy i.e, USA. India as a democratic country is improving its ties with other democratic countries of the world. It has received backing from the USA, Russia, France, and the UK which proves India has developed relationships with world power. It has also developed healthy relations with other countries as well which includes Arab countries, South Africa, South America, Israel, and many other countries. It is boosting its image in western nations as well.

Agriculture with its allied sector is the world's largest source of livelihood in India. Rural households of around 70% are dependent on this sector. With around 80% of farmers being dependent on this sector we still lag people in getting food and shelter. Our government should take healthy measures to take care of this sector. However, India is still growing in the sector. India also needs to improve its management of agriculture practices on multiple stages of agriculture. More improvements should be made on nutrition in multiple ways; increasing farming households, empowering women, fisheries, diversifying production, strengthening agricultural diversity, designing careful prices, subsidy policies, animal husbandry, and many more.

With the vision of the great leader leading our country, India will become a traditional great power. A focused effort towards all these sectors India’s journey towards achieving great power status would be really easy. Let's add a question to this article; How many regional languages does India have?
