We are saddened to report that products and furniture designer James Irvine has passed. One of the most prominent English industrial designers, Irvine attended the Royal College of Art in London; after his graduation in 1984, he began his career at Olivetti, where he worked under the direction of Michele de Lucchi and Ettore Sottsass. He later founded his own firm where he designed for clients including Thonet, B&B Italia, Canon, Foscarini, Muji, Magis, and Ikea. During his lifetime, he received an honorary doctorate in design from Kingston University and was also made a Royal Designer for Industry. Today, we honor him and his contributions to the field of design. He was 54.
