Important Home Maintenance Tasks for the Summer Heatwave

Posted on the 01 August 2024 by Bboj Handyman

Summer is a time for spending more time outside, so property maintenance and exterior repairs become more important. Many of these tasks can be done at the start of the summer, but with the British weather finally heating up, now is a great time to tick off your summer maintenance tasks.

If you have friends and family coming over to enjoy the sunshine for a barbeque or some other outdoor activity in August and September, book in a handyman today to get your home and garden in the best shape it can be. Here are five tasks a local reliable handyman can help with this summer.

Repaint the exterior of your home

If your London home has not been repainted for a number of years, the battering of the elements along with the general build up of dirt and grime could have made the exterior of your home look a little tired. The summer is a great time to repaint the exterior of your property as the drier weather means the job can be completed more quickly and you can more quickly get back to enjoying the sunshine in your garden looking at your bright and fresh-looking home.

Fix any stiff windows and doors

The hot summer months mean keeping the windows open throughout the day to keep a breeze flowing through the house and using the backdoor as a thoroughfare to access the garden for both relaxation and entertaining. After months of keeping the windows tightly shut and rarely venturing out into the back garden except for some basic garden maintenance means that you may notice your windows or doors being stiff or the locks a little fiddly.

If this problem sounds familiar to you then it is time to call a local handyman who can replace any locks that are starting to fail and repair your windows and doors so that they once again working as they should.

Paint/repair fences and gates

After years of exposure to the elements, fences can start to stain or grow mold and start to look past their prime. To get your fence back to looking its best, it is worth first thoroughly cleaning it with a jet washer to get rid of any dirt and mold. Then, once it has dried, you can get to repainting it to give it a fresh new look.

Jet wash children’s play structure

Children’s play structures like slides, climbing frames, and paddling pools collect dirt whilst left out over the winter just like everything else in the garden. Before your kids are clambering up and down the structures to let off steam in the summer, it is a good idea to give them a jet wash so that they are both less slippery to grip and looking their best before the next few months of heavy use.

Jet wash your decking

Decking really needs to be jet washed every year if it is going to look its best for the summer. The grime and dirt build up from September through to the summer months can make all decks look a bit grubby, especially with weeds or mold growing in the cracks. A jet wash of your deck should be relatively quick and will make your garden look fresh and bright, just in time to entertain your guests for that BBQ you’ve been promising.
