As a tenant, you must respect and care for the home you rent, but upon moving out, you may wonder if it is worth the extra expense to get your rented property professionally cleaned when you move. Still, there are many reasons why the end-of-tenancy cleaning in London is so important, and here at Premium Clean, we understand why, from both the tenant and landlord’s point of view, so let’s take a look at the two main reasons you should seriously consider investing in a professional end of tenancy clean.
Your deposit
Did you know that over half of all landlord, deposit disputes are due to inadequate cleaning? Check your contract to see what it says. Still, there is usually a section saying you must leave the property in as good and clean condition as when you moved in, or you may not receive your full deposit back. The landlord can send you the cleaning bill after the property is cleaned. This may end up working out more expensive as the landlord could pick a costly cleaning company, and there could also be an extra charge for short notice if a new tenant moves in very soon.
Although you may have kept your home nice and clean, it is unlikely that most people will be completing a regular deep clean, so there will probably be dirt and grime under furniture and skirting boards, perhaps some mold or soap stains in the bathroom, and any appliances such as the washing machine or oven may not be as hygienic as you found them.
So, if you would like your deposit returned in full to you, it is imperative that you leave the property spic and span! You are well within your rights to complete a thorough deep clean. Still, if you hire a professional, it will save you lots of time (which may not have a lot spare at the time of moving) and also peace of mind as many ends of tenancy companies will offer a guarantee that if the landlord is unhappy with any aspect of the cleanliness, they will go back free of charge.
Another reason your deposit could be withheld from you is if there is any damage to the property, so this is an extra thing to consider when moving out of your property. Suppose you have any damage to carpets here at Premium Clean. In that case, we offer a carpet cleaning and repair service, and our qualified carpet technicians can repair any damage to carpets, including burn marks and bleach stains, so they are as good as new.
Landlords Reference
Renting in London is becoming increasingly competitive, and a good reference letter from previous landlords could be the difference between getting or missing out on your next home. More and more landlords are asking for references to ensure that a new tenant will look after their property well (including leaving it clean) and pay on time. If you cannot provide a reference letter to a new potential landlord, this could be a red flag and cause the landlord to pick a different tenant over yourself.
To ensure your landlord give you a glowing reference, you must make sure you leave the property clean for them, so if you do not have enough time or cleaning skill to leave it exactly as you found it, then it is a good idea to pay for a professional to do it. The landlord will greatly appreciate it, which should be reflected in your reference letter. Suppose you are wondering what else a reference letter would say. In that case, it can also include tenant behaviour, any legal situations, your entire payment history, and the property’s condition throughout the tenancy (including the end).
What should be included in your end-of-tenancy clean?
Living room/bedrooms etc. – Surfaces of all interior rooms should all be thoroughly dusted and then polished. This includes the skirting boards, door handles and frames, wardrobes or cupboards, light fixtures, and electrical sockets. The walls should also be wiped down; no visible marks should be left on them. Often the cleaning of sofas and mattresses is included. These should be steam cleaned with high-quality machinery and products to ensure no bacteria are on them and they are ready for the new tenants. Internal windows should be cleaned, and there should be no mold or mildew left around them, and lastly, all floors should be vacuumed or steam cleaned (carpet cleaning isn’t usually included in a standard end-of-tenancy clean but can generally be added on as an extra).
The kitchen – a huge part of an end-of-tenancy clean- is the kitchen appliance. This includes a thorough clean of the oven, hob, and extractor fan, the washing machine drum and drawer, and the fridge and freezer (ensure that you have defrosted the freezer before the cleaners arrive as there is sometimes an extra charge if they have to defrost it themselves. Once these things are done, the cleaners should bleach the sink and remove any limescale, stains, or mould, clean the insides and outsides of cupboards, anti-bac all surfaces, and again clean the internal windows and steam clean the floor.
Bathroom/s – everything in the bathroom should be cleaned to an extremely high standard, including the toilet, the sink, the shower and/or bath, the floor, and other surfaces. No soap stains or limescale should be in sight after the cleaners have gone.
