A while ago Jenny did this great post on creating art from family heirloom buttons. We have a family reunion coming up and I thought it would be a great project for the ladies in my family to do at the reunion (I have a creative family and we always do some sort of project together).
I decided to create a prototype as a sample to show the rest of my family what it might look like.
Some of the buttons I used I had saved over the years, but most of the cool ones are from grandparents. For the backing I used an old heathered linen-like curtain panel I bought from Target several years ago. Like Jenny, I also glued my buttons on after laying them out for placement.
The frame is 11 by 14. It’s one of the Neilsen frames I thrifted. I love the mix of the vintage buttons with the sleek chrome frame. I’ll put it up after it makes its trip to the reunion and back in August.
Has anyone else done any button art?
I love this piece by UK artist Ann Carrington in Gwyneth Paltrow’s home. It would be great to try something similar on a smaller scale.

Amazing!
