LONDON MUSICAL THEATRE ORCHESTRA INAUGURAL LONDON CONCERTS
On Tuesday 28th June the London Musical Theatre Orchestra (LMTO) hosted a gala evening to launch its first professional orchestral concerts. Having recently been granted charity status the LMTO had much to celebrate and at the launch treated guests to a delightful experience, showcasing the work of the LMTO.
Attendees spent an evening, dressed to the nines experiencing toe tapping tunes played by a full orchestra in the Great Hall of the Bishopsgate Institute; one of London hidden gems. Specialising in the performing of Musical Theatre repertoire, LMTO boasts over 1,000 musicians and singers and has until now acted as a rehearsal orchestra, assembling monthly, without an audience, to develop players’ repertoire and pit playing skills by playing through an entire show.
The organisation has now formed a separate professional Orchestra with which it will undertake public concerts throughout the year; ready to take center stage as a groundbreaking, one of its kind, London based professional orchestra.
LMTO is now delighted to announce that tickets are on sale for the first public shows to be brought to London
- On 6 th November 2016 a fully orchestrated arrangement of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ever popular State Fair will be performed at Cadogan Hall.
- On 19th December 2016 the London debut of Alan Menken and Lynn Ahrens’ A Christmas Carol will be performed at The Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue.
This is the very first time that both State Fair, and A Christmas Carol have been played in London with a symphony orchestra and each performance will remain true to LMTO’s objectives – rooted firmly in the advancement of the art of Musical Theatre for everyone.
The new professional orchestra performing these concerts will comprise some of the London’s greatest musicians with an enthusiasm for musical theatre, who will play alongside a small number of the most talented and promising musicians from the rehearsal orchestra. The resulting shows are enriched, passionate and joyous performances of musicals in concert, played by musicians that love to play musicals. The depth of character this unique ensemble of musicians bring, serves to not only make full orchestral performances accessible to brand new audiences, but also to bring the exciting repertoire of musical theater to a more traditional orchestral audience.
