Our Tuesday slot in which we point you
in the direction of other great happenings and events in our city. A new
exhibition, a gig, a museum, a pop-up-shop – the best of London within a few
minutes of a London
Walks walking tour.
Simple one this week: go shopping.
We meet many European students on our walking tours
and they are always fun to be with. We should also give 'em a nod of thanks
because, at the end of every walking tour when we ask, "Does anyone have
any questions?" our students chime with one voice: "Which way to
Oxford Street?"
The nod of thanks is, of course, for the vast
contribution to the UK economy. Thanks kids!
At The Daily Constitutional, however, we like to
point you away from the main drag. So this week we're suggesting that you head
not for London's most famous shopping street but for its most lovely… Cecil
Court.
Behind the Victorian shop fronts you will find antiques,
books, jewellery, prints, postcards, medals and collectibles – everything you
didn't know you wanted all in one short street, traffic-free alley between the
Charing Cross Road and St Martin's Lane. Cecil Court was once the home of the
British film industry and was the street where Foyles bookshop was born. Those
of you joining Richard Walker on his Harry Potter walk will be perfectly placed
to discover this London gem.
A
London Walk costs £9 – £7 concession. To join a London Walk, simply meet your
guide at the designated tube station at the appointed time. Details of all
London Walks can be found at www.walks.com.
