If You Do One OTHER Thing In London This Week…

If You Do One OTHER Thing In London This Week…Our slot in which we point you in the direction of other great happenings and events in our great city. A new exhibition, a gig, a museum, a pop-up-shop – the best of London within a few minutes of a London Walks walking tour.
Cross the River #2: The Woolwich Ferry

Last week we suggested that you cross the Thames via the Emirates Airline, the cable car service serving the Docklands. If you missed it, you can catch up with that post HERE.
This week's river crossing suggestion is far less glamourous: The Woolwich Ferry.
A fixture of London's transport scene since 1965, it is the unsung hero of river crossing.

Contrast is so often at the heart of London's appeal and the views upstream are vivid in this respect with the sugar refinery battling it out with modern-day Canary Wharf for precedence. The Thames Barrier stands on sentry duty in the foreground.
The Woolwich Ferry is a free service and it carries around one million vehicles and over two million passengers a year. It's rough and ready, far from chic. But the boatmen are always cheery (in our experience) and it's the London completist's last tick: if you've crossed all the bridges, used all the tunnels, this is a must.

It's not sponsored by a big company. It doesn't have reclining seats and a bar. But we still love the much-neglected Woolwich Ferry!
