If You Do One OTHER Thing In London This Week…Our weekly slot in which we point you in the direction of other great happenings and events in our great city. A new exhibition, a gig, a museum, a pop-up-shop – the best of London within a few minutes of a London Walks walking tour.
Play Without Words – Saddler's Wells One of our most beloved periods in pop culture meets one of our most respected theater practitioners in a famous London theater. If You Do One OTHER Thing In London This Week…
Matthew Bourne’s Play Without Words is a swinging 60s tale told in dance. It draws heavily on the movie The Servant but is studded with cunning and witty references to a number of cult 60s classics. (Watch out for the fab charades scene and see how many 60s movies you can guess.)
Originally staged at the National Theatre, it runs at Sadler’s Wells until 5th August – you can buy tickets at the Sadler’s Wells website and also view a clip of the show – click HERE.
Described in The Times as “A vibrant, wicked satire of class conflict and sexual desire set in Swinging Sixties London and told exclusively through movement and music,” the Daily Express put it more simply: “Just how groovy can a ballet be? With allusions to The Avengers, Henry Mancini, Michael Caine and Bridget Riley’s Op Art, Matthew Bourne’s dance/drama is about as groovy as it gets."
