Nothing will ever be the same for Mia Hall after being in a car crash with her family and ending up in a coma. She has an out-of-body experience and then must decide if she should stay and live or go to the next place.
The film was a bit different to how I expected from the trailer, but that was a good thing. We get the story in flashback form and how she was becoming the person she was right up to the crash. We learnt about her family, best friend, music, how she started playing the cello and of course her boyfriend Adam. It builds up at a good pace and we see her reactions as she finds out the fate of her family members.
I was already feeling slightly emotional before heading to the cinema to see this film, and that was not a good idea at all. Honestly parts of this film totally broke me and I could not stop myself from crying. That was even at the cute/nice parts, it was just difficult to watch at times. One of those when you just cannot stop the tears from streaming down your face.
A different type of role for Chloe Grace Mortez but I thought she really kept you engaged and you cared about what happened to her. She was likeable and you could imagine yourself being friends with her.
The film focuses on all different types of relationships and really makes you think about your own life and how you should appreciate your family and friends a lot more. You forget how much you all mean to each other and that they would do anything for you. The parts with her grandad and friends saying goodbye really destroyed me, honestly I could not think of having to do anything worse.
Don’t forget though the film does have some fantastic moments and good times, it is not all sad. It has lovely moments which will make you smile, and funny moments which will make you laugh. It also has moments which will annoy you, but guess what? All of these things together really show a life. A life which has problems and a life which has highs and lows. So that is something which makes this film really good on a whole. In a time of trauma it shows us her life, a flashback of the key events and moments.
The relationship with Adam really does provide some extremely romantic and cute moments. I guess it is what every woman would love, some of the things he did and said really choked me up as well. Got to like some romantic gestures every now and then. It might make you jealous though that you don’t have this level of romance in your life and nothing comes close to it at all.
But don’t get me wrong it isn’t all focused on just that romance and relationship it has so much more going for it than that. Don’t forget the music, it is all about different styles of music as well. Mia has the closest mother and father as well as her younger brother Teddy. If you could pick a family to grow up with this would probably be the one you would go for. It really does pull all different relationships together so well.
I enjoyed the film, even if it did break me at times. I guess that just shows how into it I became as the film went on. I guess the question is will you cry?
