This Pope Francis message from roughly 3 weeks ago has special meaning to me this morning:
During a recent visit to a parish on the outskirts of Rome, Pope Francis revealed that if he had the power to conduct one miracle, it would be to heal suffering children.
The Pope was visiting St. Cyril parish to celebrate the sacrament of confirmation, and afterwards spentseveral hours visiting with the people there. One of the teenagers who was being confirmed asked him what miracle he would perform if he could.
According to Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, the Holy Father's answer was: “To heal children, because it pains me to see children suffer.”
The Holy Father greeted the sick people at the parish one by one, embracing them with a smile and sharing words of comfort. Some wept for joy at seeing him.
It is heartbreaking to watch a child suffer and so immensely frustrating in that so little can seemingly be done.
As I write this, my incredibly beautiful and angelic little niece Isabella, affectionately known as 'Bella, is in the renowned Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters with a respiratory virus that was causing her to have difficulty breathing and a yet undiagnosed heart issue that for moments last night resulted in a seriously rapid heart rate. She is currently resting comfortably and for that we are so grateful.
I ask and seek all of you who pray, and even those who do not, to ask God to be with her, to bring complete healing, to grant guidance to her doctors and caretakers, to comfort and embrace my brother and his wife, to manifest His presence in this circumstance tangibly and quickly.
For those needing help in praying, I offer the following:
Do not look forward in fear to the changes in life;
rather, look to them with full hope that as they arise,
God, whose very own you are,
will lead you safely through all things;
and when you cannot stand it,
God will carry you in His arms.
Do not fear what may happen tomorrow;
the same understanding Father who cares for
you today will take care of you then and every day.
He will either shield you from suffering
or will give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace,
and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations. Amen.~ St. Francis De Sales.
