Idles – ‘Great’ video

Idles offer scathing and darkly humorous observations (‘Islam didn’t eat your hamster, change isn’t a crime) on what the likes of Brexit and Trump have done to communities across the world in pro-immigration anthem, ‘Great’.

The fourth song to be released ahead of their second album ‘Joy as an Act of Resistance’ (out 31 August), it opens with a rolling bass line and Joe Talbot pondering how ‘Blighty wants his country back, 50-inch screen in his cul-de-sac’ before discussing how these same people will cry at the price of a bacon bap.

Joe goes on to tackle the absurdity of the reasons why people made such potentially dangerous decisions (‘Blighty wants her blue passports, not quite sure what the union’s for…’) before offering a depreciating chant of ‘G-R-E-A-T’ that will ruffle the hair of those who believe they ‘gained back control’ while also making those who could have done more to stop the damage think about their actions…

‘We’re all in this together’
