Hollywood icon Dabney Coleman, celebrated for his portrayal of memorable antagonists and comedic jerks on screen, has passed away at the age of 92. Known for his roles in classics like “9 to 5” and “Tootsie,” Coleman’s daughter, Quincy Coleman, confirmed his death. The actor breathed his last on May 16, 2024, at 1:50 p.m. at his residence in Santa Monica.

In a heartfelt statement to the media, Quincy reflected on her father’s legacy, describing him as a man of insatiable curiosity, boundless generosity, and a keen wit that resonated with audiences worldwide. She remarked on his graceful navigation through life’s final act, marked by elegance, excellence, and unwavering humor.

Coleman’s career boasted numerous highlights, including his portrayal of an arrogant talk show host in the acclaimed NBC series “Buffalo Bill,” which aired from 1983 to 1984. Though beloved by critics, the show’s run was brief, spanning only two seasons and 26 episodes.

His breakthrough came in 1980 with “9 to 5,” where he delivered a memorable performance as the despicable boss, a character etched into the annals of American cinema as a quintessential representation of corporate villainy. The film remains a cult classic, recognized as one of the “100 Funniest American Movies of All Time.”

Additionally, Coleman earned praise for his role as the chauvinistic soap opera director, Ron Carlisle, in 1982’s “Tootsie.”

Despite his penchant for playing egotistical characters, Coleman exhibited remarkable versatility throughout his career. A recipient of the prestigious Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe, he led a personal life marked by two marriages and fatherhood to four children, his second wife being Jean Hale.

Dabney Coleman leaves behind a rich legacy of unforgettable performances, each a testament to his talent and enduring impact on the entertainment industry.
