Ice Skating In Porto

ice skating in Porto

The title’s a bit weird, isn’t it? Porto doesn’t get snow. It’s like a post titled: “Surf’s Up In Toronto”

Even though the city of Porto has been in Christmas costume since last weekend, it’s officially still autumn. It also still feels like autumn: it was 20C today, warm enough to eat outside and wear a t-shirt. But for the sake of the people who queued up at the skating rink in front of Porto City Hall, let’s pretend it’s winter and Christmas is closer than three weeks away. Since this is photography, you’ll just have to take my word for it that the Christmas carols are cranked right up to put the skaters in the mood.

Watching people ice skate in this weather is really odd to my Canadian eyes… then again, so is seeing people with bulky coats while I’m overheated in a sweater. Does not compute! Does not compute!

I also may have overdone it today, spending hours and hours in Porto following three straight days at home, sick. I’ll admit, I was going a little stir-crazy but I should’ve paced myself. I’m paying for it now, but at least I got some good photos! More to come after a big bout of rest to recover properly.
