I Tried 10+ Pinterest Outfit with Scarves

By Styleofsam @styleofsam

Hello GlamFam! I'm showing y'all how to tie a scarf, but this is also meant to be an ode to my late friend Faith. She was a fellow co-resident and pharmacist when we lived in Temple, TX. She loved all things equestrian, music, and wonderful. Franklin, our dog, loved her too and would "sing" when she played Rainbow Connection on the piano. Even though I didn't get to see her often after we moved, I cherished our friendship. She was the friend who had the plaque, "The Best Things in Life aren't THINGS" in her house. I will always remember that and her. When I last visited her, she asked me to hold all of her Hermes scarves for her until she could use them again. I started crying, and she asked me not to and that it would just be a short time. So this blog post is dedicated to my beautiful friend, Faith.

THE STYLE Rx: The Parisians are so chic and use scarves are a versatile accessory! One of my favorite French bloggers is Mai Tai who is the QUEEN of scarves!

I was scrolling Pinterest one day to find some new ways to wear the Hermes scarves that Faith left with me. I found one, after another, and other ways that I wanted to try wearing the scarves! And here we are! I love Hermes scarves ( see these past posts) and have been a fan of the beautiful prints for years. Most of Hermes scarves as matronly, but I think of them as works of art! Here are some fabulous ways that I found on Pinterest plus some ways I've worn it previously!

Here are few scarf tying resources that I find amazing!

  • Mai Tai Picture Book - She has a HUGE collection of knot styles and videos for each.
  • Hermes Silk Knot App - this is a fabulous app with video to show you how to do each style.
  • Pinterest - My "Five Piece French Wardrobe" board has many scarves ideas on it

BELTED WITH A BLAZER

For this one, I wore a cami under the blazer and tucked one corner of the scarf under the strap (and bra strap) and let the scarf hang down. I belted it and adjusted the scarf so that it fanned out!

HALTER TOP

I saw this style on a mannequin in the Hermes boutique and loved the way it looked for Summer! The SA couldn't tell me exactly how it was done without taking down the display. Luckily, I discovered this style on the Hermes Silk Knots app! I'll try to explain it simply:

  • Fold both scarves diagonally to create triangles
  • Place the two triangles so the longest part is in the middle next to each other. (It will form a diamond w/the 2 scarves)
  • Tie the top of the 2 scarves together. That part goes behind your neck with each scarf hanging in front of your chest.
  • (Tricky part) Pull each scarf to the other side of your body and tie in back.

ONE SHOULDER TOP

This Pinterest pin has a great infographic on how to try this. Here the quick version of how I tied the top:

  • Lay both scarves down with the insides of the scarf facing each other.
  • Tie one corner together - that will be the top part.
  • Place the know over your shoulders with one scarf in front (orange) and one in back (blue). The squares will be kind of at a diagonal.
  • Tie the front scarf (orange) corners in the back.
  • Tie the back scarf (blue) corners in the front. You can play with where you tie it to change the look of the top! VOILA!

OFF THE SHOULDER SQUARE TOP

This style was also found on the Hermes app, but it's relatively simple.

  • Lay both scarves down with the insides of the scarf facing each other.
  • Tie the 2 top corners together - that will create the neckline.
You can make bigger or smaller knots depending on how big you want the neckline to be.
  • Tuck the back scarf into your bottoms
  • Tuck the front overlapping into your bottoms
  • You may want to wear a tube top under for modesty!

KIMONO TOP

Oh boy! This one does not work as well as it looks! LOL! I was inspired by a Free People catalog cover but this look needs to be worked on some more and would definitely need a tube top under modesty.

  • Fold both scarves in half to create a rectangle
  • Place one scarf over your shoulder and tuck the front into bottoms
  • Place the other scarf over the other shoulder to form a v-neck and tuck into bottoms
  • Secure the back at the nape of the neck with a pin
  • Your lower back will be exposed which is why I need to work on this one some more!

ON YOUR HANDBAG

This is an easy way to add some color to your bag! Do the bias fold and then tie on the handle!

HEADSCARF

I love the way this looks on others, but I am always "iffy" when I see it on myself! LOL! This is also relatively easy. Fold the scarf diagonally so it forms a triangle. Place the widest part of the triangle on your forehead, and tie the two ends together either in back or the side!

TUNIC TOP

This is a style that I have in my knotting cards that came with the scarf. I searched the web and found the infographic here!

AS A CROP TOP

// original post here //

Wearing a scarf as a crop top is so perfect for the Summer! It's a basic bias fold (made wider) and you can tie the knot in front (for a bikini look) or in back (for a bandeau look). Since I'm more "mature", I opted to wear this style under overalls for more modesty!

This is pretty self explanatory, but you can wear a scarf any which way around your neck and it always looks beautiful.

I TRIED 10+ PINTEREST OUTFIT WITH SCARVES HOW WOULD YOU WEAR A SCARF?!

In the first picture, it's an oblong CABI scarf. You can style it by tying it around your hair unevenly so one of the tails hangs down in your hair. In the second picture with the maxi twilly, I used it as a true headband to keep all of my hair off of my face. The long scarf makes for a fun and dramatic look.

BONUS IDEAS // I've also tied it around my handbag handle HERE and as a travel shawl HERE!
